The story of the nineball began in our La Jolla backyard in 1993. Our house at the time was a hub of activity, featuring a half-pipe, pool table, ping pong table, and a shaping room, all situated across the street from some nice, smooth hills leading down to the reefs. One of our friends from Hawaii, who had a habit of calling people "nine balls" in a friendly, teasing manner, called the house one day to see what was happening. He reached the answering machine and said, "What's going on over there at Sector 9?" which, to him and us, meant a house full of "nine balls".

The message was heard, and the name not only had a nice ring to it but also seemed fitting, so it stuck. The interest from those who saw us skate was apparent, and we began making skateboards in our backyard. After a period of learning and a couple of evictions, we were forced to move into our first warehouse, which would become the Sector 9 skateboard factory.

Since then, we have continued to push the boundaries of our designs and materials to offer the best quality skateboards for all types of riding. The Slide Formula Urethane we use provides smooth, controlled slides, while the center-set core and 38mm contact patch ensure a stable and responsive ride.

The Fabric Type of this urethane compound is 80A, which means it has a medium-soft durometer. This allows for a balance of grip and slide, making it suitable for a wide range of riding styles and terrain. The 80A durometer provides a smooth and predictable slide, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer a more controlled and consistent feel on their skateboards.
